Course Syllabus
Core Curriculum: The 12 Pillars of OS-CIT
The OS-CIT curriculum is structured around 12 core "Pillars" to provide comprehensive digital literacy, covering both technical skills and modern digital citizenship aspects:
1. Basic Computer/Smartphone Skills
- Computer Fundamentals: Overview of hardware, software, working of a computer, and types of microcomputers.
- Operating Systems (e.g., Windows 10): Basic operations, desktop personalization, file and folder management, and using accessories (Notepad, Paint, Calculator).
2. Office Productivity Skills
Achieving proficiency in office automation tools:
- Word Processing (MS Word / Google Docs): Creating, editing, formatting professional documents, and using advanced features.
- Spreadsheets (MS Excel / Google Sheets): Data entry, formulas, functions, sorting, filtering, and creating charts.
- Presentation Graphics (MS PowerPoint / Google Slides): Designing effective presentations, adding media, and delivering slideshows.
- Personal Information Management (MS Outlook / Gmail): Managing emails, calendars, and contacts.
3. Internet and Digital Life
- Digital Skills for Daily Life: Creating and operating an email account, searching, online ticket booking, using digital payment apps (e.g., Paytm/BHIM), and online shopping.
- Digital India Skills: Awareness and use of government online services for Aadhaar, PAN Card, passport, and certificates.
- Social Media Skills: Interacting using social media, uploading/sharing videos and photos.
4. Supporting Skills for the 21st Century
- Smart Typing Skills: Learning scientific and error-free typing methods in English and regional languages.
- 21st Century Study Skills: Using search engines (Google/Wikipedia), accessing learning resources like TED Talks, and virtual labs.
- Job Readiness Skills: Skills for employment, including creating professional resumes and uploading them to job portals.
- Netiquettes & Cyber Security Skills: Learning polite online behavior (netiquettes), protecting personal data, securing online accounts, and maintaining digital identity.
- Ergonomics & Go Green: Learning proper posture and healthy computer usage norms (Ergonomics) and eco-friendly computer practices like power saving (Go Green).
Certification and Examination
- Duration: Typically 3 Months (144 hours).
- Certification Body: Certification is done by the Odisha State Open University (OSOU), under the administrative control of the E & IT Department, Govt. of Odisha.
- Examination: The final exam is an Online Proficiency Test usually consisting of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with a passing score of 20 marks.
