Course Syllabus
The OS-CIT curriculum is structured around 12 core knowledge areas, designed to provide a well-rounded set of 21st-century digital skills:
1. Foundational Skills
- Basic Computer/Smartphone Skills: Understanding hardware, software, operating system (Windows 10) basics, file/folder management, and an introduction to modern IT concepts (e.g., Smartwatches, Drone Technology).
- Smart Typing Skills: Learning scientific and error-free typing methods to achieve industry-acceptable speed.
2. Office & Productivity Skills
- MS Office Skills: Mastery of the core productivity suite (often MS Office 2019/365, but also includes Google Workspace alternatives like Docs and Sheets):
- Word Processor (MS Word): Document creation, advanced formatting, and mail merge.
- Spreadsheet (MS Excel): Formulas, functions, data analysis, sorting, and charting.
- Presentation Graphics (MS PowerPoint): Creating and delivering professional presentations.
- Personal Information Manager (MS Outlook/Gmail): Email, calendar, and contact management.
3. Digital Life and Citizenship Skills
- Digital Skills for Daily Life: Using the internet and various apps for practical tasks like online ticket booking, using digital payment services (e.g., BHIM App), and online shopping.
- Digital India Skills: Awareness and usage of Central Government online services for availing documents like Aadhaar, PAN Card, and Passport.
- Social Media Skills: Basic content creation, audience interaction, professional networking using platforms like LinkedIn, and digital communication.
4. Supporting & Safety Skills
- 21st Century Study Skills: Using digital resources for learning, accessing knowledge banks (like TED Talks, Google Scholar), and utilizing virtual labs.
- Netiquettes & Cyber Security Skills: Learning polite online communication, protecting digital identity, securing accounts with strong passwords, and being aware of cyber vulnerabilities.
- Ergonomics & Go Green: Learning proper posture and work habits at a computer to minimize injury, and implementing eco-friendly computer practices like power saving.
- Job Readiness Skills: Preparing for employment, including resume creation and uploading documents to job portals.
- Remote Working Skills: Understanding the tools and etiquette required for working remotely.
Assessment & Certification
The course typically concludes with an Online Proficiency Test conducted by the Odisha State Open University (OSOU), usually consisting of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in 60 minutes.
